News and/or Rants!

Hey all.  Di here.  Before tonight’s events, I had a great rant describing the similarities between two games I am playing at the moment.  However, tonight (being Tuesday night) we discovered something totally unbelievable.

OK, so Jake and I are both anime freaks.  Recently Jake found a shareware program where we can get a hold of Fan Subs (Anime not yet released in America) and watch them for free.  So… Jake and I have found an anime called Naruto that we can get as a fan sub.  So we figured we could somehow connect Jake’s laptop to my TV so we could watch the show without having to encode for a DVD and watch it that way.  After much experimenting, we found there was no real way to make it happen unless we had a cord that could convert S-Video to a banana plug.  So assuming that such a cable exists, we go to the local CompUSA to look for it. So we spent near around an HOUR looking for this thing, and I finally convince Jake he needs to go ask someone for help.  So I hang out and play the new Mario Cart for Game cube, and Jake comes back to me and says, “Di, we found it!”  So I stopped my game, which I was winning, and went to check out this cable thingy.  So the guy had the cable in his hand, and Jake asked him how much it would cost.  The guy said there was no price tag on it.  He went to a pricing terminal to check the price.  He checked it twice before he told us the price.  “A hundred and nine” is what he said.  Jake looked at him and said “Eight or nine?”  “No, one hundred and nine.”  Jake about fainted.  He said, “no way!”  The guy checked the price 2 more times, then said, “yeah, a hundred nine, ninety-nine.”  Jake and I looked at each other and laughed in shock.  So we bade our way back out to the truck.  We got in, and Jake said, “you know what Di, that cable had gold banana plugs.  They said it was for a better connection.  Gold isn’t even the best conductor!”

So that was our fun and interesting journey into the world of expensive technology.  The thing about this was the cable just came out on the market about a month ago, so I suppose it has a right to be sorta expensive, but seriously!  One hundred ten dollars for a cable?!  Anyway, that was fun and interesting for the both of us.

In the end, we all pay for our progress.

Coated in a candy shell,

            Di

P.S. The Cable was only a foot long! - Jake
